Certainly with some of the cheap laser printers, the toner carts cost nearly the same as the printer, so you might as well buy a new one and flog the old one to some clueless pleb on ebay

    Personally, I disagree.

The cost of hardware in the UK is high compared to the price of the same component in the US.

Its almost a pound for a dollar in some cases.

And if you look at the high-end components.. I reckon their profit margin is much greater. Not that many people would buy, say, an XP3200+ or a P43.2Ghz in those forum.. But I am sure that a large number of people who go into PC World would probably just go for the highest number they can afford.

And if you look at pre-built systems.. Chances, they are bundled with higher end CPUs so that they can justify the higher price.

I have to say i aggree with the prebuilt systems and PC-World. The sale tactics are basicly to stick a high Celeron in so they can say its 2.5Ghz are whatever, give a 'FREE' memory upgrade to 128!! Then stick it on a crap mobo with poor integrated grapics and the rest. Otherwise its a P4 3Ghz with a Radeon 9800XT for ONLY ££Infinity !!! If you catch my drift

This whole forum has got a bad vibe about new members who are apparently trying to spam there way into the for sale section, why cant people lighten up, yes i only have 56 posts but the for sale section is of no interest to me whatsoever, give the new people a chance without judging them.

Grolschkid, I can see your point, but please realise that the 50 post count is there to protect forum members and it WORKS!

Not only that, but those who spam (which annoys people) are either showing an immature nature by worrying what their post count is, or, more worryingly, desperate to get into the For Sale forum. If it's the latter, I'd be very dubious about buying anything off of anyone like that becuase you have to wonder why they were so keen to get in there and if they can't respect a simple rule, could you trust them with YOUR money?

The For Sale forum is a FREE service, just like the rest of the forum. Is it really asking that much of people to get involved, maybe even contribute some of their knowledge? Even if you're a n00b to PCs, perhaps a question you ask and the answers you get will help others with similar problems.

Just to comment on your shopping...
You could buy all that even cheaper in the US. And you'd get free shipping too. So , NO I do not think UK is cheap

In a word, yes. Yes, it can get cheaper.

The perceived prices on computer components are all relative to your country's economy. For example, while the cost of living here is lower than yours, wages are lower too. And this means that items that are imported, such as 99.9% of computer hardware, seem comparatively expensive to us. Not only that, but while you could get a Radeon 9600 Pro, for what, £150? we pay over R2500 for the same. Take that to currency conversion, and we're paying over £220 for the same piece of hardware. It's almost cheaper to import... but not quite - international S&H, as well as the 20% import duty is what kills it.
