HI looking at the cpus and whitch one would be the best one???:confused:
AMD Athlon 64 4000 32/64Bit CPU S939 "San Diego"
or
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 3800 + S939 512K (2.0)

also looking at the Asus A8N32 motherboard this seems to be a better board than the Abit Fatal1ty AN8 SLi S939 am i right?
This thread would probably be better placed in the above forum, its in the GFX/Monitor sub section :) Ask a mod to move it, you may get a few more answers.
The ASUS A8N32 is a superb motherboard, probably one of the best on the market. It has two true x16 pci express lanes, which no other s939 boards have (yet)
The Abit is also a quality motherboard, but from personal s939 experience, I love my DFI, but would only recommend them to people who know their way around computers, or are extremely patient, and read a lot!
Re the processors, it really depends what you plan to do, at the moment, the single core will be the better for games, but allready some games are starting to make use of dual cores, so the X2 is more futureproofed, if that word could ever be used when talking about PC's. Your best bet would of been to get an opteron 146 and overclock it.

It appears to have been moved now anyway. If you can afford an X2, get it. They perform as well in games as the equivalently clocked single core, and youll get a lot more life out of them in the long run when things start taking advantage of dual core in a big way.

Clock for clock that may be true, however you can get a faster clocked single core CPU for the price of a Dual-Core CPU, and there's a lot of software that still isn't multi-threaded, and it'll be some time before that changes.Quote:

Go for the Dual Core, yeah not many games are multi threaded but you wont notice the difference, sure it might come out lower on benchmarking software but the FPS the games run at will still be more than good enough if you have the other hardware to back it up.
Dual core also makes your windows use generally faster, sure not all programs are multi threaded but when you run multiple programs (which people do all the time) then it's alot faster than a single core.
AMDs flagship gaming chips, the FX series have just made the jump from single core to dual core with the FX60, most games arn't very CPU dependant like video encoding programs are, the main workload is done by the GPU. With games that do support multiple threads the dual core processors really shine. Most new games will be multi threaded now, especially with the advent of the 360 with its 6 thread capability since lots of games now come out on multiple platforms.
I went for the A8N-SLI Premium because it was cheaper and I read a review that to accomodate the dual 16x SLi they dropped the HTT down to 8bits (instead of 16) so you will not notice that much difference in speed.Quote:
