    Question Graphics upgrade

    Hey,
I've just started playing FEAR and NFSMW on my current machine (my first build) and it's struggling a bit. I wondered what advice you guys'd give for the next step - what will it take to run these on highest settings?
    My spec:
AMD Athlon64 3000+ Venice Core (not overclocked - yet...)
    Geforce 6600 GT PCI-E 128mb
    512mb ddr400 3200 ram (soon to be 1.5GB - 3x 512)
    2 Samsung SpinPoints - 120GB and 250GB HDD
    Abit AN-8 Ultra
    Enermax EG375AX-VE Noisetaker 370w
    Lite-On DVD-RW

I'd rather not spend more than about £150 if this is doable, and would try overclocking (first time) if it'd make a noticeable difference.
    Thanks for any advice

THe ram obviously. THen the graphics card, 150 quid will get you into x800GTO2 territory, which should unlock to be essential an X850XT.

150quid can get you a X850XT outtight from OCUK, Powercolour brand. Great price.

Definatly need 1GB of ram at least.

Not sure 150 is enough to run those games at full whack anyway. More RAM and a better gfx cards are obviously good things, but full details? You'll probably need a 7800gt at the least which doesn't quite go that low yet.

You're probably better off swallowing your pride and running at reduced details for a few months until the power required comes in budget.

Need for speed will run at full detail on my machine, admittedly i have the motion blur disabled, but why would you want that anyway?

Well the question was about highest settings, not highest settings but with some things disabled (!=highest settings! )

How does fear run on your rig? On maximum settings?

Not a clue as i dont have it, never really appealed to me, I can run with the motion blur on, it drops about 2 or 3 fps, making it slightly jerky in places. Although im probably not the best person to ask as anything above anout 30 i cant tell the difference.

Dude, you have to try it! FEAR is awesome - switch the lights off, play it at 1am alone in the house, you'll be amazed. I never thought a computer game could scare me like that. The real fun is getting girls to play it, hehehe
