aging hard drives
i have a seagate baracuda 4 and it has been in use for three years.. i have been using a seagate 7200 for a while lately and i just noticed how noisey my old hard drive is. i couldve sworn it was quieter before but now i can hear it whenever it is on. so my question is: do hard drives get louder with age? something to do with oil or lube? or am i just realizing this because i am comparing it to my newer hard drive?

;) It's probably just how old your previous HD was. I'd imagine after 3 years the HD would be more prone to slightly louder operation but it should be very minimal unless the HD is developing a physical fault. The Seagate 7200 HDs are known to be among the quietest.
