    Mushkin Redlines Xtreme 2GB

Hey guys gonna ask some noob questions here so please bare with me. Ive got the above ram in an Asus A8n-sli Premium Mobo and an 4400 x2 athlon. I only have the ram at about 226 mhz with timings of 2-2-2 1T.

Now what i want to know is what is Superpi and how do i use it to stress my memory? Sorry for the noob question.

Also my cpu is running at 2475mhz in 1:1 ratio with the ram. Is there anyway to get the cpu to run at the same speed but getting the ram to run at full ddr 500 speeds?

Thanx for your help guys and any other advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi there,

DDR 500 does not matter, Socket 939 ONLY RECONISES DDR400, no higher. So you dont need to worry about that .

To stress your ram you need MEMTEST, this will be bootable from the bios (not a windows program). If you want a windows program I suggest PRIME95.

PRIME95, SUPER PI and MEMTEST are all tests which test your CPU/RAM to the max, and to check whether there is any trouble, and if it is stable.

Good luck, you have a killer system.

but is there not a way to change the multiplyer and overclock the memory to run full speed ?

you are only 25 mhz off ddr500 if you are running your processor at 1:1 @ 2475mhz. if your processor will go higher, your ram will too, but if its stable at 2475mhz then the extra 25mhz wont make much, if any difference.

Keep in mind that on an A64 platform RAM speed is far less important that it is for an AXP.

All your performance gains are to be had by increasing the speed of the CPU, so use a divider to lower the RAM speed if it won't go 1:1 with your CPU.

In the BIOS, normally in the section with your HTT/volts etc.

Will be called "ram divider" or maybe "max memclock", in which case it will have the options 200/166/133/100 or similar.

For it to go 1:1 with CPU you want either 1:1 or, if it's a memclock type option, the max speed of your RAM. (I.e. PC3200 = 200, PC2700 = 166 etc)

I'm really bad at explaining stuff like that, but I hope that helps.

Its the CPU that cant go 1:1 with the mermory. The memory is rated as pc4000 it can go much higher.

Then drop the CPU multiplier and up the HTT if you want to keep everything at 1:1 - although it's pointless from a performance point of view but fun if you're an overclocker

Not true, if you have an E3 or later processor & a BIOS that has implemented support then you will also have 7/6 & 5/4 dividers (nominally DDR466 & 500).
Abit & DFI have implemented support not sure about ASUS.

My answer to his question would be to drop the CPU multiplier from x11 to x9, then up HTT to 275ish. (or whatever Asus call it)

However i'm not sure how pointless it would be?

No, you're thinking like this platform has the architecture of an AXP with a conventional FSB.

The A64 has the memory controller onboard and unless you really screw the BIOS settings its performance is never limited by memory bandwidth, it's all about CPU MHz.
