Looking for a good quality, modular PSU, recommendations?

I'm in the market for a new PSU, specifically I'd like one that has detachable cables (unless there's some real inherent problem with these) so I can rid my case of the rats nest that's currently stuffed into the spare 5.25" bays. I currently have a 460w Akasa supply so something about the same wattage or a little higher and the Akasa is nice and quiet so I'm after a PSU which (in short):

- is quiet
- is modular
- is around 460-500w

any recommendations gratefully received

Tagan 530W EasyCon.

I have one, I think its a little loud BUT I DONT THINK SO! It must be something else im my comp.

Anyway, all cables are beautifully braided and its stable! At £70 you cant go wrong.

The Enermax Liberty is a favourite amongst HardOCP and other forums, but the modular cables SUCK (they are crap for usage, 2x MOLEX and 2x SATA on EACH cable).

Its a little more expensive at £75.

The Hiper TYPE R 580W is a good looking power supply. But it sometimes goes POP and poeple with powerful systems have complained about clicking noises. Also, tests shows it CANNOT run at 580W.

But its £60-65.

I really like my Hiper Type-R, haven't had any problems at all, the connections are a lot more secure than some other modular PSUs, mine is utterly silent, comes in fantastic packaging and is incredibly stable, highly recommended.

Do not get an Ultra X-connect!

Imo the Tagan is a slightly better PSU but the Hiper has better aesthetics if you have a window.

Also the hyper was just on offer for £59.

One good feature is that after you switch your computer off, the fans inside still spin for a few minutes effectively cooling your system (almost directly above my cpu....)
The cables are nice and easy to use and the carry case it comes in is useful, already my dad has his eyes set on it.....

YEp steer clear of Ultra, my mate bought one for his uber PC only to find that they don't have a 24 pin ATX cable or two PCI-Express lines and that it would just restart his machine at regular intervals. Go Hiper!

Do either have manual (or auto) fan control? My current Thermaltake PSU has a manual fan speed adjuster.

Tagan 480 or 530w Easycon, very quiet. The cables are all braided and of high quality, easy to manage.

Erm not sure about the Tagans but *sticks head under desk* nope, with my ears inches from the shiny fans I can't hear them.

Pretty sure that both the Hiper & Tagan have auto fan control.
