    Athlon 2500.

Does anyone know where I could find myself a AMD XP2500+ Barton 'AQXEA', that's suitable for overclocking??
    Or something similar?

I was gonna get one when it was orginally featured on HExus in September, but I went on holiday instead....

    Cheers for any help.

All the AMD CPU's are sold by code there, which is nice

Don't go overboard for an 'AQXEA' though as practically ALL XP2500+ achieve XP3200+ speeds on average. There are other stores which allow you to specify codes but CPUcity are great.

Oddly.. Once in a while, like today, they don't show the code.
    May be a Monday thing...

    Cheers guys.

So you are saying, pretty much any code of 2500 will work for a good overclock??? Nice.

Also, will I need to get a better heatsink/fan??
I currently have a Globalwin CAK4-88T , which is spec'd for only up to 2800's.
Would it be better if I invested in a ThermalRight SLK-947U or something like that?

    Cheers again.

Basically there doesn't tend to be any particular code for XP2500+ that o/c's badly, you're always trusting to luck when you wish to o/c anyway. If you want to seek an 'AQXEA' out then cool but there's really no need to ... it's nothing like the old Pally (etc) days ... all XP2500+ stand a VERY good chance of XP3200+ speeds.

Volcano 11+ is a real bargain for £15, great fan too. A HSF rated to XP2800+ should also deal with XP3000+ and XP3200+ as they are all very close in thermal production and running speed. It gets esp confusing when you consider how many diffs like Tbred vs Barton and esp when you are told 'up to XP2100+' as that could be Pally or Tbred. If it can cool a Pally XP2100+ it should be capable of cooling an XP2800+ (again depending on which XP2800+). Basically you could see hwo far your current HSF will let you go and simply be prepared to upgrade it.

Cheers for all the info guys!
    On a good note, got this from CPUcity this morning;

    Hello

Our current stock of xp2500 are AQXEA 0331.
And that hsf should be fine.

    Hope this helps.

    Regards

    Sales

Will these ones be good for an overclock?

No guarantees but having AQXEA does seem the popular choice so is an added bonus. You should find XP3200+ quite easily achievable and may not need to up the voltage. Good on CPUcity for replying to individual customer requests as almost all retailers don't give a monkeys.
