How to get my ipod on my car stereo?!

    Hi guys

Just bought myself a new car and ill be damned if im going to rip the infotainment fascia off to spend more money on a head unit, so what is the best method to get my ipod over my car stereo? I have heard stuff about the "illegal" FM Modulators being quite static and muffled (amongst being illegal ), does anyone recommend any specific product?

    Cheers

There are 3 ways to connect it AFAIK.

    1. A properly fitted input to your headunits phono inputs

    2. A stereo jack to tape head cable (if your stereo has a cassette player)

    3. An FM modulator

1 is the best but will cost you $$$ and/or time

2 is probably better then 3 (this is the one I had recently), can be a little messy in your car though.

    3. Cheap, not many cables but personally I dont like the sound

I went with the cassette lead until I got fed up with the cables and then bought an MP3-capable headunit (only keep a few CDs in the car now, each with 10 albums on)

the FM modulators tend to be naff, but its also worth noting, that they can be made less-ilegal (i won't say legal, as there are still some other issues) but by simply joining the ariels together.

i'd personally suggest that number 3 has better quality - guess it depends on what you get.

some cars can take a propper ipod cable - which hooks into the cd changer output on the stereo (out the back) - you can then use all the stereo controls (next track, next 'cd', and occasionally album text as well) and leave the ipod in the glovebox where it'll be charged at the same time..

    what car have you got??

    Hi stathis

Nah its a brand spanker of a car and is a cd radio, how bad is the FM modulation?

I dont wanna spend money and/or time ripping fascias and head units out, not when the car is a day old..

    Cheers

http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/prod...oducts_id=4651 that one looks like it might work.. check the model number on your stereo..

if you dont want to risk taking the car apart yourself - find a decent car hifi shop with one of these in stock - they'll probably fit it for a tenner or so if you buy from them.. definately the 'smoothest' option out of all of them..
