SN41G2 BIOS Settings...

Hi,

I'm lookibg for some help setting up the BIOS of my SN41G2.

Specs: XP2600 (333), 2x256 TwinMOS DDR (PC2700)

What are the basic settings I should go for? In terms of System Performance, FSB Frequency etc...

P.S: At the moment the system is running as a XP2000 and System Performance is set as Optimal

yo need to change the fsb to 166

Thanks Russ for the reply. This is what I did and now it shows as an XP2600 when it boots. However, the machine reboots randomly when being under windows. Very annoying

Is there any application showing the temperature under windows so that I can identify whether the problem is linked to the CPU overheating? I could not see whether the red led was lighting up when it reboots ...

Really need help. I'm prolly making something wrong

firstly, take off the ICE, remove the cpu shim they send you, and makeapply a THIN layer of the compound again, now replace the ice, carefully, and make sure its perfectly seated. in bios, set the reboot temp up to 60-70ish.

then google Mother Board Monitor 5 (mbm5) and use the dashboard to see whats happening, (takes a while to get used too if ur new to it)

Will probably seem silly.. but how do you know whether the ICE is properly seated.. is it when the 4 screws are tight and won't go further down??

Do you rekon that I should remove the shim completely?

yea, it keeps temp down, take it off.

Do it like this, place the ice on the chip, press it down with your left thumb,(not to hard now) tighten a screw, untill it will only turn a little more, then tighten the oposite diagnol corner fullly(so it wont twist), then go back to the first 1, and do the same,with ur thumb still there (and satrting to ache) repeat the procedure for the last screws, and all should be well, and make sure you plug then fan back in

mbm5 has been installed and I will be monitoring the CPU and Case temp for a while before removing the schim as you explain.

Something else that I noticed is that whenver I open the nvidia control panel and select the different panes, I have those funny little stripes appearing on my screen. Those remain on the screen even when the nvidia control panel is closed, but would disappear if I open an application that covers them.. as if I was erasing them from the screen.. ?!?!?

I though I should probably install the latest nforce2 drivers for the gfx card... but I will wait for others inputs.

Just got a reboot as the cpu temp approached the 48C which is the temp where the fan should speed up. I will wait a bit more to check whether this is the cause of random reboots.

I also installed CPU-Z and it reports:

---------
For CPU:

Core Speed = 2079.5 MHz
Multiplier = 12.5
FSB = 166.4 MHz
Bus Speed = 332.7 MHz

----------
For Memory (Timings):

Frequency = 166.4 MHz
FSB : DRAM = 1:1
CAS Latency = 2.5
RAS to CAS delay = 3 clocks
RAS Precharge = 3 clocks
Cycle Time (Tras) = 7 clocks

Are all those settings alright?

The striped problem sounds like a graphics problem i had, you using the onboard? Download the latest Detonator drivers may well fix it

Your memory timings are fine, you may be able to tighten em a bit later but make sure everythings stable first

Yes, I'm using the onboard gfx... gonna install those latest detonator drivers then...

Update: I installed the above mentioned drivers. But, now when I right click on the desktop -> choose properties -> settings -> advanced -> geForce 4 MX GPU ... I've got an error message showing up "nvcpl" without anything written in it ?? now i'm totally confused...

Problem solved. The TwinMOS were causing the problems.
