So what is the difference between a 940pin mobo and a M2 mobo? They both have 940 pins, right?

I think AM2 has a different pin configuration to Socket 940, along with the other additions already stated, such as DDR2.

Where did you get the PCI-E controler info? I've not heard this before

I know the current S939 and S940 chips have a built in DDR memory controller - M2 chips will have a DDR2 memory controler - this is the only major change I have read about.

that isnt even an m2 board, if you look at the cpu holder layout apprently the M2s might have the pins on the board.. Foreign website, so it's saying its the new MSI board, and asking if it's socket M2 It says it uses DDR1, so it can't be.
so its actually a socket 940 Opteron board.

Bright_ I looked at the site via Babel fish, it's a Dutch website, Yesterday - it's better than my Dutch but not great...

'How do you think that M2 it will do? Will it DDR1 will bump now real of the throne?'
I read this as: How do you think that M2 will do, will it dump DDR1 off it's throne

They seem convinced it a M2 board - does look like it in the socket close up, you can just about make the socket type out.

... saying that it would not the first time Babel fish has spat out a load of gibberish.

It's actually called AM2, not M2.... but anyway, it's supposed to also offer support for quad-core CPUs

Yes, I have not heard about the built-in PCIe bus either... only the integrated DDR2 controller versus the existing integrated DDR controller... How many PCIe lanes will it have total? I believe the max today is 20 or 24 or something.

I'm no expert but I didn't even think AMD chips *had* a northbridge... they packaged the memory bus into the CPU and just used a single I/O bridge for peripherals... not separate north/south bridges
