Updating BIOS - Asus A8N SLI Premium

    Hiya chaps

Im trying to install the Asus Update utility (V7.04.01) in order to flash my BIOS, and on doing so I get an error box titled 'ASUS BIOSINFO.DLL' which says 'Nt service registry error! Please reboot NT asnd run again'. Then I get thrown back to the desktop with a 'could not find an Asus motherboard'.

Any ideas or sugestions please? This is XP Pro by the way.

LOL. The likes of Asus, Abit etc, all say that winflash is fine, but I've never seen a BIOS flash from Windows work properly.

I did flash my BIOS in windows XP fine, odd enough it worked on my Premium but not my Deluxe. Got the same error as Deadlight. I could find a floppy drive but I don't want to spend money on a floppy disk...

btw It worked on my XP64...while not on my XP32...

And to even things up a little, ive not seen one go wrong where the software flashing itself was to blame

I wish people make a BIOS CD for Asus, like what they've done to DFI NF4 boards...
Some of us stopped using floppy drives for a hell long time...

Done a couple of A8N SLI Deluxes from windows with no problems - but I have to say I was not as comfortable as doing so from a floppy.

Aha - found the answer. There's a conflict with some Creative/Logitech drivers (I have an X-fi). See http://www.planetamd64.com/index.php...c=14241&st=20/ Works fine after changing the registry!

Glad you found the solution. Seems those cards do create a few conflicts.

I'm also in the sucessful windows xp BIOS flash camp, and thats for a budget board! (Even if parent company is Asustek)

    Thank you !!!!!!!

I tried to install the bios updater last night and had the error about detecting an Asus motherboard all thanks to the X-Fi card .... so another case of SNAFU from creative ?

I'll do this later tonight and flash my BIOS

I always boot from a Windows Me install CD (I presume 98 will do), and choose the "boot from CD with CD drivers" option. That gets me running DOS. All you need then is a CD with the DOS flash utility and copy of the new BIOS.
