I don't agree with that all. I took apart a 3 year old graphics card recently. It had 2 different types of thermal compound - a white heatpipe thermal paste, which could be wiped off but leaving a residue (which the Akasa TIM) removed completely - and hardened yellow ceramic across the GPU and heatsink. Isopropyl was ineffective as was a mineral solvent I bought from the chemists. I had to use a screwdriver to try and scrape the bulk of the stuff off. When I got the Akasa TIM, it dissolved it in about 2 minutes and allowed it to be wiped off easily leaving no residue. I have also used it to dissolve thermal pads, double sided tape very easily. And to top it all, it smells of lemons.Quote:

I had the same experiences, TIM Clean eats the crap out of any oily substance, I even used a bit on a cooker to clean off some of the carbon/oil gunk on the hobs, bloody worked better than Mr. Mussle.
Does anyone have a clue where to get Lacquer Thinner or Acetone in the UK?
schmunk are you sure? Cheap stuff at home mums got, has loads of crap in.
Even so, it's still probably ~99% acetone...Quote:

And if your comptuer goes into hospital they will know it has been drinking meths because its all purple!Quote:

Yeah, thanks a lot man, got some from the Chemist.
Isopropyl is the best stuff available; try your local chemist they may be able to sell it a bit cheaper / in lower quantities.
Nail Varnish Remover is bad as it leaves behind sediment etc, as does teh Akasa Tim Cleaner (as it is scented).
Isopropyl is the best as it is like 99% alcohol and therefore won't leave much behind ;)
eBay probably ISN'T your friend here; try shopping locally at your chemists etc.
