    Question Laptop to run Vista?

    Hi,

I would like to buy a laptop over the next month which I’ll primarily use at work. I work in I.T so I’ll use our own trouble shooting apps, nothing major.

I would like to be able to run Vista to full capabilities, but no one seems to be sure what the recommended spec is?

I would like a Sony notebook as I like their range and the 2 in concern are the following. I know both will run vista, but the question is how well and what features will be missing?

http://vaio.sony-europe.com/view/Sho...y=VN+FJ+Series either of the 3 colours

    or

    http://vaio.sony-europe.com/view/Sho...y=VN+FE+Series

Things seem to be moving over to Dual Core but I am not sure I’ll take advantage of that at work. My main gaming machine for CSS, Football Manager will continue to be my desktop.

Is it worth future proofing by going with the duo core or save a few bucks and go with the single?

    Thanks in advance.

    Darren

I'd aim for lots of memory (1 gig min, 2 gig pref) at least 64megs of graphics memory with decent 3d acceleration (for aero effects). Duo won't be essential IMHO, at least not for the context of what you want it for.

I'd wait until vista specs are released before planning a spec to run vista.
    It is Inevitable.....

Yeah i'd go for at least 1 gb ram. I can't help thinking that two cores is the way forward and for future proofing i'd be better off getting duo core now rather than having to buy duo notebook later.

On the other hand if i buy single core now then i could get a better dual core in a year or so.

I'd also be tempted to wait until the Vista requirements are known, but I guess it makes sense to get the best of what you can afford if you want to buy now!

there is one problem with the sony fe series in that if you plug in usb devices then it drains quite quickly. This should be fixed with a patch though.

Mabe you should look at the dual core asus but then i dont know you buget!

I reckon you'll need a load of RAM and a decent specc'd top end graphics card to run all the visual aspects of vista...sounds expensive

I think for what i need i might as well go with the FJ series. I'm not really going to make use of the vista features, but it would be nice to have a powerful PC at work as im surrounded by macs!!!!!!!

Need something to show them PC's are best. But the FJ will have to do i guess.

    If that sometimes.......

Might be going a little off topic now.

Anyone got any opinions on the Sony Fj series?
