Are nForce4 mobo's/BIOS as fragile as NForce 2?

Hi guys./....need bringing up to speed for a possible PC build.

As some of you know I killed 3 nForce2 BIOS's with PC crashes where the BIOS was then corrupted.
I never ever had that trouble with VIA or Intel mobo's.

So....has anyone killed a BIOS on an nVidia nForce4 board?

Next up....for about £250 what CPU and Mobo are the best choice. Onboard sound needed. Lots of toys., Will be moderately overclocked, but needs to be rock (and I mean ROCK) solid in all manners of gaming hell. If need be it will be sotck speeds.

    Lookforward to your input.

SLi not essential ,but nice potential

    Cheers peeps

Well thats a great set-up there, its what I run and its never cuased me a prob, its put up with me mangling a bios flash (Asus mobo manual saved the day) with this particular board you can recover a corrputed/failed bios with the supplied CD. Its also remained rock stable during my early attempts at Overclocking, now my 3700+ is somewhere between FX-55/57 speed and its still as stable. Fantastic combo!

speaking of Dodgy Bios for the nForce chipsets....

I've had a nForce 3 250GB with the Gigabyte KN8S Pro - the bios would sometiems not even pickup me IDE connections when their plugged in :S

Also- this nForceGigabyte K8NE 4 does it as well.....but very rarely

it mainly happens when the pc has been off all night....

Actually I think you need the IOSS Bios saviour! The CMOS reloaded is superb, but i'm pretty sure only backs up your config settings, not the entire BIOS.

From my experience NF4 bioses are far more robust than NF2 boards. I lost two nf2 boards to the Leds of death but have had no problems with NF4 at all.

As stated above CMOS reloaded only saves BIOS settings (ABIT has a similar feature in the AN8 BIOS) but if the BIOS is too trashed to get that far ...
If you still have a BIOS Savior from nF2 it will add peace of mind although nF4 does seem a lot better in that regard.

Well like I said with the Asus A8N-SLi Deluxe the entire BIOS can be recovered from CD or Floppy.

I should imagine they have put the feature in the boot block of the flash, not the main BIOS area. In that case, that area shouldn't ever change and therefore should always work.

I cant see you killing a NF4 BIOS buddy, there pretty stable.
When i got my AN8, i was trying to kill it by pulling the power mid-way through a flash. It wouldnt die unless it was programing certain areas of the boot block.

Even if you do, you still have my address, right ?
