    Question Looking to Upgrade CPU

    I currently have a AMD 64 3200 (socket 939) on Neo 2 Plat m/board.
I want to get a new CPU - what's the best I an get for this m/board?

Also, I only have 1GB of PC2700, would I be wise to upgrade this?
Would I see a massive performance increase with/without new CPU...?

Mostly use my PC for gaming. Don't want to spend the earth!

    Cheers.

What graphics card(s) are you running at the moment? If you're running two 7800GTX in SLi I'd say it was alright to upgrade your CPU but aside from that there's really no point. If you want a bit more why not dabble in a bit of overclocking, but a 3200+ won't be holding you back.

[EDIT: Just read your sig, you really don't need to upgrade your CPU. ]

As for RAM, it'd certainly be worth upgrading to some PC3200, I made the jump from PC2700 with this system and it seemed to make quite a difference.

I agree with NightshadowUK with the rest of your specs the cpu is not a bottleneck. You should be able to hit about 2.5 Ghz with the proccessor overclocking it but your PC2700 may hold you back.

Thanx for replies, I guess some 3200 RAM is the way forward then! Certainly the more cost effective one anyway. I was surprised that I can't get a much better CPU for the board

I have tried o/c the CPU but I just get freezes on the desktop etc.. I don't know if this is because of the RAM, or that I'm not doing it properly, or that I don't have faster RAM...

Anyway, time to find some bargain RAM!

    Cheers again!

Neither of us said that you could not get a better cpu what we both said was that with the rest of your spec a better cpu would be wasted. To really get the best from a new cpu you would need to upgrade your memory to 3200 and your graphics card.

TBH, for gaming your best investment would be to upgrade your graphics card.

Yeah I am tempted by a new card but they are more expense than I am willing to shell out at the mo.
