    Death by noise!

Well, My PC is putting out 54 dB from 10 feet away! Does any one have any ideas as to what to do to silence this beast? My case is aluminum so thats only resonating my dual raptors and other 4 HDD. So theres where the majority of noise is coming from. I'd really love to have a clear case but with no mounting grommets its still going to be loud. And while the antec P180 would work best its a no go due to its looks.

Any ideas on a clear case? I need 6 HDD mounts inside.

Ive never seen a completly clear case with that many HD mounts, youcould go for one of the mountain mods chassis from over-clock, they have windows on every side. Or a Stacker would probably suit you nicely, only 1 window (although it is huge)

clear cases are horrible mate if you find computer innards attractive then you need to socialise a bit more !

get a decent stylish case most come with grommets for silencing the drives

or why dont you put the four other drives into a an old pc and network it its fairly fast even without gigabit networking

Check it out, I got one recently and I'm really happy with it. The PSU bay has rubber mounts top and bottom which is good at preventing resonance. The J06 also supports six hard drive bays, has a window to show off your hardware and also great air flow. The Temjin J06 ommits low noise levels for a top end fan-cooled chassis. It also looks dam fine

The Akasa Eclipse-62 Aluminum Case has 7 HDD mounts. A beautiful case to work with too.

Yep, I'l back that up! Although it's not really clear...

Ehm - yeah give it a look, it has a window factory made for it, and you fan even install a fish tank look in it if you fancy!

it has no window, but for silence and hdd space you could consider a lian li v2100... has room for a million hard drives (12 i think, maybe more) and has 120mm fans throughout. Really nicely made, and would be very easy to get a window cut in the side panel for it - either by you or some to do it for you? Theres also a silverstone ripoff of the case as well, which i think does come with a window

If you have a million pounds you might be able to aford it. I'm seriously unimpressed by Lian-Li cases, even less so by their price and what you get out of that money.

Raptors aren't any louder than any other HDD, in fact the only time I notice them at all is during heavy disk I/O.

What version you got? Mine are the first 36ers. I can hear them spin (whine) and when they seek at night it wakes up my house!

2 WD740GDs, in RAID 0.. Honestly my old 7,200RPM Maxtors were more annoying.

The 74gig versions have FDBs. The old 36gig's didn't.
To (try and) answer your question, the P180's the best case I've ever worked with for silencing HDDs. Haven't had the displeasure of dealing with the 36gig version of the Raptors personally, but IMHO, this case is about as good as your going to get for that many hard drives...(the P150 has a better HD mounting system, but won't store nearly as many drives unless you buy some Zalman HD silencers or something for the 5.25" bays)
