Noise Absorption Material - PC case

I'm hoping to reduce the noise my pc makes and was looking at noise absorption material for the inside of the case.

Has anyone had good experiences with a particular brand/type?

I found these which look reasonable but few reviews say they are really really great.

I used some of the aska stuff on one of my cases - it was ok , it mainly changes the tone of the noise rather than the volume.

Yehh, i used some of the Akasa acoustic dampening material too. Make sure if you have a large atx case, you buy two packs as i found i used around 1 and a half packs of the stuff. Noise wise, it stops un-wanted "rattling" and high pitch sounds, makes the overal tone of the PC lower. But dont expect miracles from the material, but expect a small/medium decrease in noise.

I found these people http://www.mutemat.co.uk/products.php and have bought the cheaper kit.

As a materials engineer I have never been convinced about the foam solution in pc cases because I think you need quite a large depth of material for it to be effective. Although changing from a high pitched whine to something more hummy is preferable. I think the use of fibre is better than foam. We shall have to see how it performs.

I also bought that stuff cos the business is in Newcastle Under Lyme / Silverdale where my uncle used to live!

I'd echo Andymorris1500, as quietening a PC is somewhat of an art as much as a science. I hate the frequently used term 'silence' as you can only have silence (the complete absence of noise) or not, and most people are happy with quiet.
To quote a famous bloke however...."Once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny, consume you it will..."
You'll find that getting things like quieter hard drives, better (quieter) CPU and graphics fans are all worthwhile.

Yes I have read silent pcreview and have indeed chosen parts that are relatively quite yet have good performance. Noise absorption material looks like a good cost effective way to deaden the sound and reduce the noise. i.e. <£20

I'm not looking for a totally silent pc (which would be nice) and am very much aware of the

The mutemat was delivered just now as I was typing this post so I am impressed with the delivery time.

The mat is a fibrous, white, compressable material sandwiched between a black layer to keep the fibres from frayings on the finished, viewable surface and a white layer with a peel off sticky back for fitting to the case.

I will post some piccies of the material and the final installation later when I build it. Some careful measuring is required first!

I used the Akasa Pax stuff, it worked to a certain extent, though I need to get some quieter fans..
