also remember if you don't want to break the motherboard it's likely you'll haveto take everything out of the box to fit it, the springclip is apparently pretty strong.

do you have one of these?
Mine makes an annoying whine - it's quiet, but I'm distinctly and frustratingly aware of it! Does anyone know an easy fix? I was going to pick up a variable speed control (like Zalman's little black box one) and find a less annoying frequency, but that means ordering one, and waiting for it, and installing it, and stuff. Effort!
Other than the whine (which is not a common problem, it seems - probably just a combination of factors in my specific install), it seems to work a treat! 37 degrees on an Opteron 146 @ 2.4GHz. Cheap, too.

The spring clip is so easy to install (way easier than the stock cooler). You don't even need a screw driver to help. But its somehow not tight enough IMO.Originally Posted by MON

I don't have one myself, and I know your going to say "so you can't comment" but I have quite a few friends who have bought them, and although compared to a lot of HSFs they're easy to fit, my friends said that they're stronger than a normal stock cooler. I have no personal expierience, so it might just depend on batch >.>
my idle temps were in the 40s with my zalman and now around 30 with my freezer. It's ace!

Not in my experience, the clip is actually way softer than the stock cooler. That was Custom PC that said it was strong, I think what happened is that there are two small studs that fit into holes to keep the clip in one specific position and when they reviewed it they must no thave alligned the studs with the holes. Hhhhm hard to explain but there is most definitely no need to remove the mobo, the cooler is very very very easy to fit.Originally Posted by bright_
On the subject of noise, it's actually pretty noisy running at the default speed (in my mesh-fronted case at least, compared to my previous Acousticase) so make sure you enable cool 'n' quiet or whatever it is in the BIOS - mine runs at 1400rpm now (even under load, but I can't get it any slower with my BIOS ), and it is inaudible. All in all it's a very good cooler for less than £20
reviews and personal opinion seems high, will be purchasing this week, will let you know how i get on with it
