High FSB Socket 939 motherboard

Now that I have gone through 3 CPUs, I have come to the conclusion that my A8N-SLI is only stable upto 245MHz FSB......above that and I get random crashes.

What motherboard on the market will definatly go higher? I am not interested in SLI anymore and the DFI boards doesn't rock my boat either.

Whats left?

Epox boards usually go up to about 270 with no issues. Mine tops out at 250, but im positive that is the wincheste i have reaching its limit. Roll on the sweet X2ness on monday.

I had an MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum that went way over 320 with hardly any tweaks - great onboard sound as well. I appreciate that its an SLi board but I never used that side of things.

Also looking at the Asus A8R-MVP (£75 on Scan today only) which gets a great write up and is passively cooled. Anandtech had it clocking v highly.

A DFI Sli-D/DR or an Expert WILL go far higher than that mate - mine's at 280 x 10 (SLi-D, X2 4400+) and my mates at 315 x 10 (SLi-D, Opty 146)

My Asus A8N-SLI Premium tops out at 310, my DFI NF4 SLI-D tops out at 350...

Abit's AN8 series goes past 300 no probs as a rule (they've been to 400HTT for sure as have the DFIs).
Afaik X2s usually don't overclock as well as single-cores though so it could be your CPU.

I'm sitting here quite happily at 334x9. Almost all DFI NF4 boards will hit 350htt from my experience.

245 is pretty poor for that mobo... Infact so poor I almost think something is broken on it, did you drop the HTT when overclocking? I was under the impression that ASUS were pretty much the 2nd or 3rd best overclocking boards, DFI being the best, obviously. Does the northbridge fan work???

I would not recommend the A8R-MVP for a high fsb overclock. The maximum available voltage is 1.45v. 1.50v if you are lucky. The anandtech review does get a high fsb but this is because they dropped the multi way down.

I managed to overclock an opty 146 on this board to 2.6Ghz (10x260) stable with stock cooler and load temps were <40C so there was alot more headroom just no chance to go higher because of lack of voltage.

Apart from that it is a very good board.

For high fsb go DFI then Abit and the higher range Asus boards (with heatpipe thingy)

@Nox: Its a standard A8N-SLI, not a deluxe or premium, hense the poor FSB

Thanks for the responses, I am going to wait a few weeks and see how those RD580 chipset boards pan out before making a decision.

Using a Msi K8N sli plat have an opteron 165 sitting at 9x315.

I think the best clockers tend to be DFI, MSI and Epox in that order. Although I don't know about the newer ATI boards so maybe someone else can clarify those. If your looking for a super high clock but some serious tweaking then go with the DFI. If you want a good clock but without as much fuss then the MSI or Epox will be good choices.
