If they are out officially then - I'm sure it would be around then.

But can't really comment until something is out officially.

By the look of the current hardware market trend I think the price will stay or even increasing, rather than the old stuff dropping price. Can I buy an A64 3000+ new cheaper compared to 6 months ago? Not at all. The 3800+'s price did not drop a whole lot compared to 6 months ago. I doubt socket M2 is going to make any different.

I'm sure s939 prices will drop but prices will probably mirror the situation that occurred when s754 replaced Socket A. Prices of Socket A stuff dropped but stablised at a certain price point and didn't fall any further. Things were cheaper but not bargains. I rember the Socket A motherboard of choice then - the NF7-S still cost about £100.

I'm not sure what would happen... at a guess, I'd say Socket 939 prices would drop since they would be pushed out of the number one spot, and so the market would go to AM2 instead. However, Socket 754 might not drop so much since it is and would continue to be a budget solution - something AM2 might not be.

I'm going to take a stab in the dark here and say that thats a pre-production board thus the horrible colour. All the 754 and 939 boards by MSI have been black or red and quite good looking for the main part.

I am happy to see a passive cooler though! Tthe 7500rpm cooler on my Neo 4 Ultra screams.

BTW, I think it might be possible to put a 939 chip onto the M2 with some sort of adapter. You see Gigabyte (I think?) made a DDR2->DDR converter chip (for VIA chipset) to let the board use either DDR1 or DDR2. M2 should be able to do the same.

Remap the ram slots so that you could run DDR on the board, use a CPU adapter to route the "corrected" pins to the memory controller.

The key issue is, whether the M2 chips will support DDR1 and DDR2 at the same time?
If it does support DDR1 then it will be just perfect for step upgrading

Stick with your 939 chip and DDR1, then upgrade the chip to M2, after a while, finally upgrade your ram to like DDRII-1066 (I doubt DDRII-667 gonna be a hell lot faster than my DDR600)
