Which Motherboard?
okay, I am planning to buy an opteron 144 and do a bit of overclocking, so I'm after a decent motherboard to replace my foxconn, which I don't think can really hack it. I'm not really sure whether there's any point to SLI, coz I have a 7800GT and can't see it being limited for a while yet, in which time I'll bet socket 939 will have been superseded. Saying that, the nf4 SLI chipset supports SATA2, which seems pretty worthwhile using. Here are my choices
Asus A8N-SLI SE

Abit KN8-SLI

DFI NF4 Infinity (not SLI, but seems like a great price as DFI are good for overclocking)

any help would be much appreciated

If you don't need SLI how about a KN8 Ultra? http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=265397
You get SATA300 unlike the DFI.

yeah i've actually been having a good look at that one since i posted that message. I see you have a AN8U, do you know what the differences are? Do you regret not getting SLI?
-
Yes, I know what the differences are - uGuru, passive chipset cooling & 3.5Vdimm rather than 3.2Vdimm are the main ones.
Unfortunately AN8 Ultras seem rare at the moment, DABs had some last week but they sold fast.
I don't regret not getting SLI as I don't see me ever putting down that kind of cash for 2 gfx cards.
Actually, I'm 99% sure that I'm going to sell my DFI SLI-DR.

Using a MSI K8N sli plat with an opteron 165 dual core at 2.84ghz can't fault it.

the DFI Lanparty boards OC great however the INfinty is ther value range and as far as I remember they don't overclock so well.

well i've gone for the asus a8n-sli se in the end, coz it got a good review in the new custom pc. There doesn't seem to be a great deal of difference between it and the deluxe version, but i'll let you know how it goes.
about the dfi board, from the reviews on ebuyer they make it seem like the only difference is the lack of uv-reactive stuff and the transpo strap, but i thought there might be more to it than that
