Thats fairly warm for an AMD my, fairly heavily overclocked 3700+ never passes 34C. What cooling are you using?
AMD 3700+ San Diego @ 2.8GHz | Zalman CNPS 9500LED + Arctic Cooling MX-1 | Asus A8N-SLi Deluxe + Zalman Northbridge | 1024MB DDR RAM (2 x 512MB Corsair XMS Pro TwinX) | Leadtek nVidia 6600GT 128MB | Creative SoundBlaster X-Fi Xtreme Music | 2x80GB Hitachi Deskstar SATA-II (RAID 0) | Gigabyte 3D Aurora Case | Hiper Type-R 580W Modular | Enermax Ultimate Fan Controller| Microsoft Nautral 4000 | Logitech G5 + fUnc 1030| Ideazon Fang | SpeedLink Medusa 5.1 Surround Headset | Samsung SM913N 19" TFT | Compro DVB-T200

Make sure everything is firmly in place...

thats way too high for idle temps. did you use a thermal paste like arctic silver, or a thermal pad? if you used a pad, did you take the paper off it first? also take off the heatsink and look at the contact area and see if it was flush together.
MON 54c is far to high for a Athlon x2...
Acctually x2's maxium running heat tolerance is 65c (without acctually physically working)
but..
i run an overclocked athlon 4200+ x2 (2.6) and that runs at 28c idle
even with defualt hsf you should be aiming at 35c idle
i suggest taking heat sink off, making apsoulty sure thermal paste is spread evenly over the whole cpu die....make sure heatsink is securly fastened to motherbaord and try resetting the cmos, becuase sometimes motherbaord can auto reduce voltage on cpu fan
hope this helps
yea i took off the original paste and put on arctic silver .. i have 80mm front fan which i am upgrading to 92 and the rear two are 60mm and i have not side fan on the case so i am going to put two 80mm or just one 80mm looking at them enermax (dial control)
the case is a scan alumax the rear is the max i can go scan do have this case in but they must of upgraded it because the rear is now 80mm. see link = http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...roductID=10175
also the fan is working ok i have seen it go up to 5900 rpm and at start is is around 3000 or more

I have similar components to you, (X2 4200+ and Asus A8N32. It is possible that you might see slightly higher CPU temps than other people due to the heatpipe transferring heat to the upper part of the board.Originally Posted by MON
With stock cooling, depending on my ambient temperature (it can vary a fair bit), my idle temps are:
CPU 34-40
MB - 32-37.
At load, my CPU has hit about 58, the MB on the other hand stays fairly constant (about 42max).
This is with Cool and Quiet enabled (have you enabled this yourself - you should notice a significant reduction in temps if so).
Also Q-Fan is on, which will raise temps obviously, but helps with the noise. What about yours?
My temps were higher when I had a passively cooled 6600GT in there (damn thing idled at 65-70C).
Now with the 7800GTX temps are as above.
The setup's all housed in a P180 with 2 120mm fans fairly close to the CPU area.
Given the amount of case ventilation that you can(can't) achieve, I'd expect your temps to be more in the 45-50 range (rather pessimistically) at idle. Those CPU fan rpms seem awfully high...I didn't know the stock fan went up to 6k rpm? Is the heatsink fairly warm to the touch?
Check the things that other people have mentioned above.
Also, just check that you haven't got bits like CPU-Overvolt on which raises the CPU core 0.2V..
What sort of load temps are you getting?

Cool and Quiet is enabled the q-fan is not.. the heat sink is war to touch but the heat pipe is a bit warmer .. do you think the fans are better replaced and will the side fan make allot of difference and is that case i have OK for the set up? my gtx runs at 49 at idle when system is warm .. the cp u fan is settled at 3750 now since i took the front ALU plate off
i took the front panel of and the mb was 45 it is now 40c
also wot is CPU-Overvolt ?
and i did set the AI booster to standard instead of auto

so the case (scan alumax) is ok for setup then or is it on the limit (size i mean) for the setup?

got a 120mm the silverstone one (adjusable) it is running at half speed i now get 47cpu and 36mb but i have the front 92 to fit and the two new rears with better flow when i get them..
When you're CPU's being used a lot, i.e. when playing a game, benchmarking etc.Originally Posted by MON
not tryed yet due to the heat .. but will now with that fan .. just trying to get bf 2 patch off ea reset sever once and it is 280mb
the joke is now my system is cold even the side panel were the mb is and thats cold now .. last night it was warm i mean it is not a massive drop but to it is in the case if you no wot i mean..
right load temp .. i run bf2 for half an hour getting killed ( not played it proper yet ) lol
and come ok and checked temps and it was 49 c for cpu and the mb was 41c system looks like it not moveing mutch above that but want to try 3dmark to stress it .. when i get them fans it should stableize even better.. not bad for the case ..(scan alumax) and the system inside in cold .. the temps must be thrown off due to size of case..
just looked now and cpu is 48 and mb is 41 but the 120 fan is only running at 1200 rpm whitch max is 2400
