Dell Servers - Sata or SCSI

Does anyone work with a Dell Server that has Sata drives?

Im currently looking to update a clients knackered NT4 box with a new one, they save a lot of CAD files on the server, have emails there & a Sage DB along with logging onto a 2k TS box.

Is there much performance difference as I will be adding a SCSI card if i spec Sata for the LTO2 drve for backups.

All the other server's ive sold have been SCSI, however it add's an extra 1k to the price & this customer doesnt like spending money...

Sounds like a balancing game... For the array of stuff you'll have the new box doing I'd be speccing for SCSI unless you're going to put Raptors in - I don't think Dell sell boxes with Raptors, so you may as well spec for SCSI. But that's just my opinion.

Likely to get more IOs/sec through a scsi array, especially with a good controller. Depends if they weigh price over performance I guess.

I'd opt for scsi if they have the budget, I had to order two Dell servers for our crm software but as were only a tiny company price was a major factor hence going for sata versions.
