    Angry

well i'm buggered if can find one anywhere. Looked round all the local pc shops (cambridge) not one of the 6 i went into even had a 2500! mofos

Tempted to get from ocuk and chance it. 2 problems

    1) i have had 3 faulty items off of them in the past and they were bastards about it.

    2) someone in their forums says they got a locked 2500 from them.

maybe they got oem and retail is fine or vice versa. I'd register for the forums and ask, but i cant register with only a hotmail address - and i'm not installing outlook cos , franky, i am not a virus fanboy.

    sucks sucks sucks.

sum1 help me b4 i start listening to radiohead and screaming
    ' It's not fair!'

isnt a computer fair for bloody weeks grrr.

    easy now

Well someone has added to the thread saying they received an unlocked week 39 on wednesday from ocuk.

could anyone registered with the ocuk forums go to the thread in question and ask if the codes and whether they were retail or oem? Looks like could be in with a chance here if......

Has any one thought of importing them from India?

Quite a few pre week 39 2500+ with 512 L2 cache are available.

The price to customer is approx Rs. 5300 approx 75 sterling.

Buying an XP2500+ guaranteed to an XP3200+ does not make much diff since virtually all XP2500+ will do that (maybe with a little extra voltage) and that includes the new super locked ones.

    XP2500+ = 11x166=1.83ghz
    XP3200+ = 11x200=2.20ghz

The only diff is the FSB, the biggest problems with current Barton seems to be that they are super-locked and thus prevent you maximising the potential of your mobo, RAM and CPU.

Sorry I will have to disagree AFAIK this is how it works

Most XP2500 will do XP 3200 but don't count on it.

Some XP 2500 cannot handle 200 MHZ bus hence they are labelled XP2500 and not XP3200 !

I found this out the hard way ! My main rig handles 200 Mhz fine but a new week 41 XP2500 I have can only go up to 193 FSB !

I have also used my main rig Winbond 3200 to test and the CPU is still unstable to that FSB even with the voltage gone up !

I assume the checking procedures have been strengthened at AMD which means we will be getting crappier XP2500 !

Erm......so if building a new system......2500 still the way to go....or should I look somewhere else?

Depends on how much cash you have.

If you have >£300 to spend on cpu, ram and mobo then its worth going for P4 and 865 chipset imho.

I agree, P4 seems the way to go. Otherwise it's a 1.6+ Duron (Tbred with disabled cache) because it seems TbredB will be shifting to Thorton (Barton with disabled cache) so will surely suffer the same fate as Barton seems to be doing ... super-locked if not somehow crippled from a max o/c. Still an XP2500+ at 380FSB (2.1ghz) still boosts you to XP3000+ so is still good value from a £65ish CPU. It's just a great pity to lose the fine control we've been used to with unlocked CPUs.

I can see this hurting AMD rather than helping them ... esp since they don't have a real long term platform for Athlon64 yet (939pin early 2004).
