Depends what you are running. You can't expect to run a power hungry system totally passive.

I am still wondering whether it is worth to go Ninja now though. I think that I might stick with the stock cooler until the the Scythe NCU-3000 is released just so that I won't need to get another cooler once I need an AM2 mount type cooler.

The Plus moniker denotes that it comes with a Quiet 120mm. Do you mean is it ok to run this heatsink with the supplied 120mm attached, but no other case fans?
It would really come down to what voltage you're pushing your CPU at, but don't forget that other bits like VRMs could start to get a bit toasty, possibly decreasing their life span.

i have just built a new system and i have installed a Zalman CNPS-9500 seems to keep the temps cool and it is very quiet. infact the only really annoying noise in my system now is the cooler on my XFX 7800GT XXX, anyone got any ideas on a good quiet cooler for this card? i used to have a Zalman VF700-CU on my 6800GT but im not sure if they are any good for the 7800GT, anyone any experiences with this card and cooling?

The VF900 is on the horizon. I am just concerned it is going to cost £30+ =/

The VF700 works great for the 7800GT, using one at the moment on mine.

I'd second that opinion on the vf700 - im using one on my 7800gt as the stock hsf was driving me mad. Also dropped the temps by a fair few degrees

Update on this - decided just to remove that absolutely dreadful 92mm fan that gigabyte have put on it and replace with a silent one as the heatsink and heatpipes looked pretty decent - ah, bliss. Why do gigabyte use such shoddy fans?????

Hi - how did you do this, as it's not a standard size fan?

What size fan did you use and how did you attach it?

    Cheers,

    Cheers,
Ah well, the fan is easy enough to remove - its only held on by 4 (very easy) to slide off mounts (those 4 pointy bits at the corners - just slide them away from the fan). Now the next bit - this is a proper bodge job im afraid But hey i dont have a windowed case (but doesnt look that bad) - i just took a very quiet fan and (using the bodgers favorite tool - zip tie!) i secured the new fan at 2 corners to the heat pipes! I'll post a pic if you're really interested! I reckon it would be very easy to fabricate a plexi mount type thing using the 4 original mounting posts though - next little mod maybe....

The results are silence and pretty much identical temps, give or take a degree, so im pleased!

I'm running one of those and it's awesome. I have a very open structure case so it lets out noise real easily, and it's still damn quiet. Plus it's the LED version and it's good looking to boot

I don't mind a bit of bodging, and I have a largish supply of zip ties.

I'd be interested to see a picture, then I'll have a go myself!

Bodge! Using the evercool fan from my case - but its on the zalman fan mate and is silent, temps are in the 30's at idle @2.3ghz, its totally stable. Result i'd say, dont see the inside of the case anyway - so much better than that awful gigabyte cooler - gonna use the led's from the fan though
