To SLI or not?

Hi Folks,
I have to rebuild my pc to add a waterblock. I was thinking of adding a 2nd GFX card while I'm in there. Is there any real world advantage of having 2x 7800GTX? I don't want to spend all that money if they only thing which will actually use it is 3dMark06. :-)

I run almost everything at 1920x1200 btw....

I came to the conclusion that it is only really for 3D Mark.....unless you run something that really makes use of it (I found nothing). I ditched SLI 7800GTs for a single 1900XTX and the performance increase was remarkable.

Hmm. It would be marginally cheaper to sell the 7800GTX and swap it for a 1900XTX.

7800GT is not the same as 7800GTX though. Anyone done this with 7800GTXs?

A single x1900XT appears to do as well as a pair of 7800GT in SLI and will be much cheaper... with the possiblility of adding a second card (not matched) later.... flexible option?? But for the moment a single X1900XT will do.

Well, it certainly wouldn't do any harm, but if you're not encountering any frame rate difficulties then it won't do much other than boost them. Still, if you play FEAR on top settings then it'l make it playable, so, if you've got the cash why not?
