    TV out

Was looking at building a SFF PC to use as an output box for the TV, when I stumbled across this:

    http://www.hauppauge.com/html/mediamvp_datasheet.htm

Also noticed that SMC are doing something similar (except that there has wireless lan).

Anyone any experience of these? the only problem I can see is that recording from TV is out, but as a display only thing, it looks promising.

So what's the deal? Does it use Ethernet to connect to the device in order to squirt a signal from the PC to a TV like a gfx card's TVout or is it more to do with remotely controlling your PC while you're in front of your TV set? I don't quite get what the device does for you.

Looks pretty cool, basically (AFAIK) the box is a HTPC, just a well done one.

I wonder what it'd be like decoding divx movies etc, I take it the admin of the unit will be by web browser.

The only thing that would stop me buying one is price, I could buy a Epia system and remote control via WinVNC (or a shuttle remote control kit) w/TV Out.

    Anyone any more info?

From what I gather, It's a basic HTPC. You hook it up to the TV and you can then access your PC through it - Think thin client and your getting there.

The bit that appeals is that it's NOT a PC. Therefore should be silent. I've already got a server full of MP3's, Jpegs and the like, just need a way of whacking them either through the stereo or displaying stuff on the TV.

As with most HTPC it's going to be the software/interface that makes or breaks it.....
