1gb of low latency ram or 2gb of higher latency

I currently own corsairs pro xl 32000 1gb memory, thats 2x 512mb which runs an 2-2-2-5 latencies

I was woundering whether I would get a performance boost from selling these and getting either value select 2x 1gb sticks or twinx 4x512mb sicks at 2-3-3-6 or possibly4x 512mb value select ticks

should I sell and ifso which should get?

I play alot of god games controlling arge anies ike in rometotal war

ialso play fs games.

Any advice?

Without any doubt, 2GB > 1GB low latency. Tight timings matter very little and if you can get the CAS2.5 Value Select then you're laughing. They run at 2.5-3-3-7 on 2.75v up to 230MHz!

EDIT: It would appear the CAS2.5 sticks only come in 2x512MB so you could keep hold of your Corsair Pro and fill out your slots...

It wont lower the timings your other memory can run at on its own, but the rate at which you can run the memory will be limited by the slowest stick.

Having upgraded to 2 Gb everything is much smoother. "I think" that you are better off getting 2 x 1Gb as 4 x 512 Mb forces 2t command rather than 1t.

1T is the most important factor, follwed by the CAS rating. The other timings (after the CAS number) hardly make any difference.

what would be better 2gb of ddr500 at cl3 or 2gb of ddr400 at cl2 and are either of these worth £60 over 2gb of ddr400 cl3 ram, all are pairs of sticks?

None of those are particluarily good value tbh, the ddr500 is pointless, ddr400 overpriced and ddr300 too slow.

Your best bet would be to get 2 x 1gb corsair value select from Scan for £117 (maybe thats the £117 option you had up there?) as it is cheap and performs well enough.

Tbh even speed wont make a huge difference, when i got BF2 i tested it out with my ballistix as tight as they would go at 230, and still noticed improved performance when i put in a gig of pqi tat i had knocking around, which screwed the timings (something like 3-7-7 something) and put it down to DDR333 (was a winchester chip)

So basically, for BF2 at least (and i didnt notice a drop in anything else) 2GB owns.

Actually since he would not get the RAM modules to their rated speed, he could tighten the timings. But tbh I think you'll be fine with some value select memory modules, make sure they are dual channel
