As I'm running the stock fan on my GTO² at a constant 100% through ATi Tool... it's noisy... very noisy. So I was wondering, how quiet would something like the Zalman VF700-CU be, how hard would it be to fit and finally, how many slots would it use up on my motherboard?

The Zalman is meant to be pretty quiet, and iirc, includes an adapter to run the fan at 7v, so it will be even quieter.
It would use up the adjoining slot (whichever slot is next to your graphics card you wont be able to use) and its a simple case of removing the old hs/fan and securing the new one. Just make sure you have the pushpin holes around the gpu that allow it to be connected.
The difficult part is removing the old hsf, as its usually held on quite securely (the thermal paste requires some effort to detatch the cooler), but its not that difficult.

Right that's all good then. The slot next to my GTO² is free and the one after that is only taken up by a tiny wireless network card.
One last question regarding thermal compound, will I be okay using the OCZ silver stuff that I got for use with the CPU?
Yea, that or arctic silver if you've got any. When I got my Zalman Northbridge cooler it came with some thermal paste, so im sure the zalman should come with something if needs must. (I used arctic silver on the northbridge as i had some lying about)
