Scythe Ninja - as long as you have a case fan blowing air near it you should be able to use it fanless...
At Scan
indeed these coolers are real niceOriginally Posted by schmunk

Try undervolt your CPU? I can run passive with AMD stock crappy cooler Assume you're not overclocking though.

There isn't many quiet ones for socket A that i've seen.
I'm in total agreement, they're two of the best air coolers your can get.Originally Posted by sawyen

This is S754, not S478 (aka Socket A). However, a lot of the older Thermalright heatsinks fit Socket A platforms. Add a quiet fan (Papst, Panaflo or the like) to it and voila! Silent Socket AOriginally Posted by pp05

Socket A is 'AKA S462'. S478 is different - it's the older P4 socket.Originally Posted by FatalSaviour
scythe samurai and the zalman flower thingy with floating fan attachment both do a pretty good job with socket A if you can keep their fans at or near minimum ... scythe looks more interesting...
The zalman is listed at 42.5db, that's not quiet
I've got an Aerocool HT-101, I had on my socketA, and fitted it to my s754, listed at 22db
I would recommend it here
Thanks for the prompt replies folks - especially that scythe heatsink - looks very impressive, especially if it can handle running with no fan. My rig is a clawhammer A64 3200 at stock volts but running at 2.3ghz (up from 2.0 stock), it's always been hot in the 2 other mobo's ive run it in - not in the current pci-e gigabyte mobo, so im not inclined to believe the temps. There's a silent exhaust fan right next to heastsink - reckon it'll handle it?
Currently got a Gigabyte G-Power Pro cooler which i was told was quiet, but this isnt the case!! At least not enough for me The zalman ive got on my 7800gt is v quiet though so was defo looking at a cpu zalman cooler as well.
You guys that recommend the scythe - what rigs are you running with that - what temps/stability etc?
...oh and its defo s754
I have this cooler too, and it's not very quiet, is it?Originally Posted by eUphoria

Yep, quite correct sorry. I've just ordered 3 S478 (P4 ) motherboards and my brain's gone AWOLOriginally Posted by schmunk
The Scythe Ninja does infact come with a 120mm fan guys, if buying from Scan, VERY silent too!
Currently running an Opteron 146 CACJE @ 3Ghz / 1.5 volts / 33*c idle.
Excellent Cooler and cant even hear the damn thing
