g-power pro is quiet and cools well.....i run mine at 5v and for me it cools more effectively than an xp120 (i had one fitted with a 38mm silenx 120mm fan)....looks a treat too! am still tempted by the cnps9500 though....would match my gtx coolers.

ahh well.. There are far too many HSF threads already.. And there are far too many good coolers out there that wont make much difference..
CNPS9500, Ninja, Big-T, Noctua 12-U all make excellent choice.. just drop the money on the cheapest amongst and get the best bang for the buck..
Get the 9500 if u ARE using VF700-Cu for colour coord.. The Zalman is fine at full pitch, you can even run it passive if u have a 120mm fan pointing at it on the side window.. (At least mine did well.. ) I'm suprised no one actually tried that as plenty of cases have fanned vents on the side of the case

I have 2 of the copper vga LED coolers in my rig so the CNPS would compliment well!!
Im buying a new pc with 4800x2 , it'll come with its own HSF, I wont be doing much gaming on it, but will use more for multimedia via HTPC and video editing, is it worth me spending extra on a seperate CPU cooler?
not really... the stock cooler that comes with X2s and Optys are already great on its own..
There are only 3 factors that justify changing coolers really...
1. Noise..
2. Performance..
3. Looks..
If its an HTPC, there's no need for performance.. and no point with looks as it should be in a closed case most of the time.. The only thing to consider are noise generated. Stock coolers that comes with Optys and high end X2s are pretty quiet.. but if you're that concerned.. a low profile Coolermaster Sussuro should fit the bill nicely..

Maybe I just got a bad one, but the stock cooler on my X2, the new, four-heatpipe one, makes a hellish noise. Performance seems pretty good, but it sounds like a spitfire taking off. Definitely not for HTPC porpoises.Originally Posted by sawyen
hmn.. like I suggested earlier.. a Coolermaster Sussuro will be a good substitute.. low profile, okay-ish performance (better than stock) and very quiet..

Another vote for the TT BT. It's keeping my opty at 40C loaded @ 3Ghz and is very very quite.

I have a Big Typhoon and definitely recommend. If you check reviews it even beats the Thermalrights.
I love my Freezer 64 Pro. It keeps my Opteron 165 (running at 2.57Ghz) at 34 degrees load.
A bonus is that is it is practically silent.
Top stuff.
