    AMD 64 3200+ @ 994 mhz Huh?

I have a laptop that runs an AMD64 3200+ which should run at 2 Gig however according to windows it is only running at 994 mhz.

The laptop is on mains power so it's not a running on batteries stepdown thing

I just don't understand why it would be running so far below it's rated speed

    any ideas?

Lappy is a HP Pavilion zv6025ea

It wil be doing it's cool and quiet technology.

So when the processor isn't being used intensely the clock speed decreases and thus keeps it cooler, and makes the battery last longer.

You should be able to disable this in the bios

is there any way to turn that off because the machine seems a lot slower than it should be given it's rated speed.

I have checked the bios but there are very few options in there and nothing to do with cool and quiet

    ---edit---

Strange if it is a step down based on processor load I am now running CPU burnin which puts it under full 100% load and it's still only running a 994

The window speed compiler is a little slow.. try checking it with CPU-Z, those are real time..

I think its more than just CnQ.. PowerNow! comes into play as well.. Probably your rig is low on batt.. if you're connected to the mains, go to ur Power Options in ur Windows Control Panel and change the profile to a Desktop rather than Minimal Power Management or Lappy... That should kick CnQ out the door... hopefully PowerNow! too..
    Me want Ultrabook
