Help turning Mic off without going threw steps.

Hi all, I know this question seems somewhat Elementary for most, but I never really had to much knowledge for microphones anyways. Anyhow here's the question. I used to have a crummy mic with an on and off switch to it. Now I just went out and got myself a brand new one though it doesnt have an off switch. Since my speakers and subwoofer pick up so nicely when I turn the volume up, the mic and speakers act up. I was wondering if I could easily just click a button on my keyboard to turn mic on/off. This would be very appreciated.

    Thank you.

just go into the soundcard's mixer panel and turn it off/mute it.
