Confused here lads
My firend has jsut bought an asus X1600, the one with that dodgy cooler. After about 20 mins of playing his computer freezes for about 5 seconds and can still hear the sounds in the background and then sometimes his monitor swtiches off and says "no signal input"
My first thought was PSU, so he got a replacement psu and it hasnt helped. So now im thinking temperature, but its a new card? soooo should be ok. im not sure how u check the temp on those cards as apparently ati tool doesnt work with x1600's.
do you guys have any ideas as too why this problem is occuring?
Specs:
ASUS A8N5X
EAX1600XT
corsair 512
amd 64 3000
jeantech 600w 19amps on +12, 60 +5, 32 amps on +3.3 or
tagan 480w 28 on +12 48 +5 28 +3.3
Regards,
Merlin

Put your finger on the back of the card, where the GPU is, and take care not to short the thin. Sounds crazy but that's how i check my temp. Or just replace the TIM see if it helps, sounds like temp prob to me too.

a quick way of checking if its a temp issue is to take off the side panel and blow a desk fan into the case and see if that helps. if it does help then better case airflow is needed. if not, try what Hans said. have a look at the contact between the gpu and heatsink and if its not good, try an aftermarket cooler.
and 512mb of ram running games?

hes checked the temp with finger and doesnt seem too hot. And put a deskfan towards it with no effect. My guess now can be its a faulty card....

I had exactly the same problems..but with an X800 GTO 2, I bought a new CPU HSF and the problems got much better, can play games without any crashes at all :) before it would crash after about 5 mins!
So i'm thinking it's probably a good idea to get a new cooler for the card, I'm going to get zalman GPU cooler now, just so i can overclock it.

it might not be overheating, as it crashed after 5 seconds when in a game, checked the gpu and it wasnt even warm
