PCI-E 8x Add-In cards

Looking at a new PCI-E RAID controller and notice it require PCI-E 8x.....

Now, I presume this isn't going to work in a 1x slot (or if it does, its going to run slooowww)....so that only leaves SLI/CrossFire motherboards?

Would these need to go into the slot primarily reserved for the second GPU? or are we expected to see motherboards soon with more PCI-E slots.

You can set your motherboard to SLI mode, then plug the RAID controller to the 2nd PCIe 16x slot. That way your card will get 8x and the gfx will get 8x too. Alternatively run non-SLI mode and your GFX will run at 16x and your raid card will run at 2x (slow)

Asus do a couple of Nforce 4 mobos with a 4x socket designed to take a x16 graphics card. I should imagine that would work fine as 4x is a gigabyte per sec (unless this controller can talk to 20 odd drives).
