Hi folks - got an X-fi card yesterday and installed it no problems. Previously had on board ac97 working. Started to play COD2 with eax 3 for sound and i'm getting lock ups (no system response at all) after about 5 mins of play with random snippets of sound playing when it crashes, ive never had this problem before the x-fi so im guessing thats the likely cause - can anyone suggest how i can solve this? :confused:

its an ocasional occurance with EAX enabled, you should try updating your X-Fi drivers and keeping your games patched. If it keeps going on, try moving the card to another PCI slot.
have you disabled your on board sound?

its not limited to the X-Fi in particular, it apears to happen with any EAX enabled card, I have experienced the same symptoms with my Audigy 2, as does my friend with his.. update - god i feel stoooopid :embarrassed: My recent crashes - i reckon ive figured that one out. Very recently i went for a near silent pc and silenced my cpu fans etc etc by replacing with quieter and slower fans that were undervolted. Great - except that the cpu overheats and hangs when playing games, doh and doh again!!! With a fan controller all is peachy, my god im stupid!!!!

Hey, got some X-fi driver questions for people.
Ive just formatted, and installed the lastest drivers of Creative's site. Sound is working fine, everything is ok.
Now i want to install some of the software, like the player for Dvd's, and some other things, whats the easiest way to do this?
I'd try just bunging it all on from the CD hopefully you will either have the option to not install the driver (may need to select Advanced/Custom at Install) or the installer will realise a newer one is present, if not then just go with the flow and reinstall the newer driver afterwards.
