Single Best Purchase so far in 2006?

Guys,.....I'm intrigued.

What do you consider to be your SINGLE BEST purchase so far in 2006? Hardware only.

If you've had a new mobo AND cpu, you gotta choose. I mean, if the mobo was just purchased as the cheapest because you HAD to have that GPU, then it's the GPU.

But..if you're so suprised by the new stuff on your mobo that you didn't even KNOW you needed, and you're already considering uprading the cpu onto that same mobo, then mobo it should be.

Graphics cards anyone....or have you found that your single best purchase was the MONITOR that you'll be using even after 3 more graphics card upgrades?

Memory...maybe you had the ultimate cpu and mobo, but you made the decison to buy TOP NOTCH memory and knock the cpu down a tad, and on your budget, and now you're very glad you did.

Mouse...a new mouse? Or keyboard maybe. Joystic?

Maybe it revolves around that 10,000 rpm HDD that frankly makes EVERYTHING faster.


Come on....spill them. I want to know.

For me......I aint brought any for myself yet, but a lot of you know that for me so far this year I've been most impressed by an Opteron 144 (not mine) that was laser fast.

MAybe it's as simple as a new heatsink?

Best purchase so far... probably my HP dv8000z notebook. Yeah, it's not a gaming notebook, but the 17" widescreen is niiiiiice and it's light for its size. Those old 15.4" DTR notebooks were heavier. The second HD is great for ripping DVD images to. It's a stopgap until Turion X2 notebooks with good NVIDIA GPUs are available. Great bang for the buck. My poor eyes needed a bigger screen. I'd have gone for a MSI MS-1036 if I'd wanted a gaming notebook now though. Much nicer but I didn't want to spend the money and it doesn't have the second HD.
