I've just finished my first ever system build, turned my beautiful creation on an recieved no picture on the monitor. All i get is a beep code - one long beep followed by a pause and then another long beep etc etc.

    What have i done wrong?

    Thanks in advance,

    Merlin

checked that the ram is in properly.. doesnt sound like a graphics card problem (thats usually 7 beeps or so) but its worth checking - just reseat it.. and check you put the heatsink round the right way, else you might've just burnt your athlon (well unless its a p4 then you safe )

Try re-seating the GFX and the memory. If you are still getting the error, make sure the you have a fan attached to the MB CPU fan header.

In your manual it should tell you what error the beeps signify.

Try the ram in a different RAM slot.

Can you test the RAM in another machine?

    May be of help:

    http://forum.abit-usa.com/showthread...ght=beep+codes

By the sounds of that it seems to be pointing to a problem with the RAM as well.

Have you looked in your manual to see if it tells you what the error message means? They normally have a chart in the manual with all the error bleep codes.

If there is no mention of the codes then it's just a case of trial and elimination, but for this you really need to machines, so you can test the memory, the GFX card, CPU and so on until you find the part at fault.

Did you make sure you had a fan attached to the CPU fan header? I am not sure whether on that board you need it, but I do know for certain that on my old Abit board it needed a fan on the CPU fan head otherwise I also got a bleeping error message.

ok, very worried now! i just made sure that the cpu fan was plugged into the cpu fan header properly, plugged the psu back in and, without me turning the machine on, the cpu, psu and northbridge fans all began to spin. but they werent spinning properly, they were pulsing faster and slower really quickly. both the red and green leds on the motherboard were also pulsing on and off. i pulled the plug very quickly. what the hell is going on?

sometimes a system will boot up when the power is connected regardless of whether the on switch is pressed.

My best advice is that you start from the start. The very start. Connect everything taking care to check everything is seated properly. sorry if this sounds basic but it will help to rule out any mistakes on your part as opposed to faulty equipment.

those beep codes should give some sort of idea.....
