Anyone here got the 500w version? Jus about to order one, and wondered if the cables come braided?

Bloody hell you must be very good at this. Takes me more than a few mins just to remove the 20/24 pin psu connector.

On average it will take me around 3 hours to braid an entire psu including doing the heatshrink. However the result is very worthwhile.

Why not just get a Tagen Easycon? Even a 480W PSU would be overkill for your rig. I don't know anything about Seasonic, but I've had my Tagen for over a year now and the voltage doesn't fluxuate by even 100th of a volt.

I currently had a 480w psu that I managed to blow up, so looking at the seasonics, that was the closest. Only thing is I plan to turn it to a file server once I move to a laptop - so it will hopefully have some large raid arrays goin in to store all my data.

hard drive power usage is miniscule, rarealy exceeds 8W per disk, rough guessing from your 'My System' tab you probibly wouldn't use any more than 240W at peak load..

Seasonics have the highest efficiency that I know of and they're very quiet. Other manufacturers are catching up though. They're still my favorite brand. Enermax Liberty would be my second choice but I haven't tried one of those yet. Maybe a PC Power & Cooling kilowatt power supply if I were building a dual Opteron SLI beast but I'm a wee bit short on funds for that.

Well basically I thought there was little point in downgrading from a Hiper TypeR power supply that has served me well 24x7 for the last 2 years - but then user error meant it failed

So went for the Seasonic 500w because of the good reviews, and because it is meant to be pretty quiet...

I've got a 500w Seasonic in one of my works machines - very impressed with it and i'll probably swap to one for home. Nice and quiet, 24/7, solid and dependable - thus far anyway.
