    3 sticks of memory

    Noob question:
I have a DFI Lan Party NF3 250Gb Socket 754 with a Sempron. I used to have 2 sticks of 512Mb DDR400 and just bought a third stick of 512Mb. However only two of the sticks are recognised in Windows (Cpu-z sees 3 alright), i.e. 1024 Mb only available even tho 3 sticks are in.

Now the motherboard manual says it can support up to 2Gb for DDR400 and up to 3Gb for DDR333. So is it right that I can only use two sticks of DDR400 only? Any help appreciated.

I think all 3 slots filled means the memory needs to be drop to 333 mhz speed for them to work. I seem to remember reading this somewhere. Try adjusting the memory to 333 in your bios and see if windows now see all of it.

This could be a processor limitation, s754 chips don't like 3 sticks of ram.
Try setting to 333 in bios like teachmech said, or if you want more than 1gb of 400 you'll have to get 2x1gb sticks.

Thanks for the replies. I have tried the suggestions of lowering the memory speed.

Funny thing is that it wont post with 3 sticks AND if I force a lower memory speed (It will post with 3 sticks at DDR400 but will only recognise 2 sticks OR it will post with 2 sticks at a lower speed). I think I will just have to use 2 sticks and keep the third one for the spare machine I am building up.

    Cheers.
