overclocking - windows clock speeds up!?

just thought i'd overclock my old games pc to give it a fighting chance of running oblivion, and i'm finding that the windows clock keeps drifting - speeding up by half an hour over the course of 6 hours or so. what the hell? am i overclocking the system timer too then? how can i isolate it? this is silly!



(athlon xp 2800+ barton 333FSB set to 400MHz to run in sync with ram, plus multi set to 11 instead of 12.5 - 2200 instead of 2.08)

Weird as it follows the BIOS clock, sure you didn't muck something up there? Otherwise set it to update from a time server each hour or so.

Yep - I've never noticed it before. Very strange...

Let me add - the BIOS clock is fine, and when you reset the PC the Windows clock resets to the correct time. But as long as Windows is left alone the time creeps up farther and farther, only when overclocked.

Whilst it would be good to get to the root of the problem the time server sync. is all I can see helping atm. This however doesn't correct every 15 minutes or whatever (cba to go to the registry - lessons in 8 mins -), try a small footprint time sync. app... there are loads.

my guess is you set up windows, didnt set your location, and its syncing your time to us time

Nope, everything's set up correctly. I don't leave the PC on long enough for it to drift by 6 hours.
