I currently have windows 2000, I am thinking of upgrading to XP this weekend just for the hell of it, but I can't really justify why I should. Will there be any real benefit?
Reasons for and against please

I now much prefer XP Pro over 2k, but with Vista coming up I wouldn't bother.
Hmmm... I don't fancy 12 months of a buggy, virus targeted windows version like vista.
How much performance increase we talking?
virus targeted, after playing with vista beta i would say its the best secure desktop os i've seen other than a trusted platform!
XP has some token rights management, and some APIs that certain applications require.
throw new ArgumentException (String, String, Exception)
As an Ex Mac user for 16 years up until 3 years ago, I MUCH prefer XP to W2K, it is maybe a wee bit quicker, but more reliable and has better security with SP2.
Asfor Vista... don'y think I will be going thar route any time in the next 2 years an maybe longer... till we see how it REALLY is, particulary DRM wise.....
not sure if it matters but if you want to play games there are some, ( or at least elder scrolls oblivion) that will ONLY run on windows XP.
