Are there any good value graphics cards out there...?

I've just got my hands on the (apparently) ever popular Asrock Dual 939/Opty 146 combo, which I'm about to ruin with my old 9800XT.

At some point I'm gonna have to invest in a new graphics card and I need some advice. I want to spend between £150-£200 though I'd prefer the lower end of the scale, but I want something that is a good upgrade compared to my 9800, not a card I'll end up wanting to replace again in 6 months time.

I'm not to worried about bundles of software and I'm going to replace whatever heat sink I get with my existing water block - I wouldn't mind something that overclocks well

    Anyy suggestions?

wait until the 7900's are out at least which isnt that long now. As this will most likely be the last major revision from either manufacturer until at least the autumn/winter then you will see prices settle a bit (in theory).

Then go for whatever fits your budget then.

7800gt cards are available for less than £200, which are significantly better than your 9800. X1800XT is probably on a par, for roughly the same price, so whichever you can find a better deal on.

    Think you mean the X1800XL...

If you can find any Sapphire X800GTO2's around they are still good value at ~£130 and give you about the same price/performance as a 7800GT if you aren't looking to spend that much.

Above are good choices. You can also get a leadtek 6800gt for just over 150 quid on a good day from scan.

I can't believe how many of us there now are!
I am running mine with a GeForce 6800 (regular flavour, no sprinkles) AGP, and it's ok, but for the money i'd either be looking at a 7800GT, or as the guys have so perfectly put it, keep an eye out when the 7900GT comes out.
I'm commenting on an internet forum. Your facts hold no sway over me.

Personally I'd recommend a 7800GT.. I have two running in SLi and they're great. It's true that the 7900 will come out soon though, so waiting might be the sensible thing to do.

I think I'll wait for the 7900GT, I've got to pay off the rest of the hardware first!

On a side note, I've got it up to 250Mhz HTT, 2.5Ghz on the processor and 250Mhz on the memory without any bios mods... so far

Still looking for a graphics card, is just over £200 good value for an x1800xt (including VAT and P&P)?

    Wahey! Me too.

    Well, the mobo at least.

I did just go slightly mental and add a PCIe graphics card about a year before I intended to though. Oblivion, my wallet hates thee.

As for £150-£200 graphics card, Dabs had a deal on the AIW X1800XL which put it at £199.99 inc. VAT - dunno if that's still there, but it seems like a damn good deal to me - excellent 3D performance plus the telly if you want that kind of thing .

Otherwise, most 7800GTs are going to be slap bang in the middle of that price range at the moment, so I'd suggest either a) pick the one you like the look of the most or b) find the cheapest you can.

got myself a x800gto2 @ x850xtpe speeds.....definately better performance / image quality than the 6800ultra (but not by so much). If i were you I'd be looking at an X1800XT 256Mb for just a bit over £200. If you want to cheap consider the same card I've got....

    7600GTs are about £150

X1800GTOs will be available relatively cheaply too
