    Question XP2400's

I've got 2 XP2400's here, one is about a year old 0243 the newest is 0341, the older one is a TBred core but the newer one appears to be a Barton shaped core....
Weirdness going on, I'm guessing the newer one is better...

    Old
    AXDA2400DKV3C
    AIUCB0243RPBW

    Newer
    AXDC2400DKV3C

If you do get the newer 2400+, can you please post whether you could change the multipliers on them or not?

I've tried the in socket wire mod and it wont allow me to change the multipliers like I could on the older CPU....

I take it other ppl ahve lost the ability to get the lower multipliers as well then...?

At first I've only heard of the Bartons being locked. However, in the last day or so, there's been cases where even the TbredB's were locked. Like you, they've tried the wire trick, but it hasn't worked for them.

Yeah I meant mainly "Thortons". I've seen reports of Tbred's, but they haven't mentioned whether it was a TbredB or a Thorton. Though, I'm not entirely sure whether AMD has totally moved into producing Tbred's Thorton style or they continue to make it the original TbredB's way.

You mean can u turn a Thorton into a Barton, I wouldnt of thought so, I would of thought a Thorton is to a Barton what the early Celerons were to Pentium's, chip doesnt pass tests with the full compliment of cache so they zap it with a laser and off you go, either that or all Thortons start life as Bartons and then as supply demands they hack the cache out and supply as the lower chip, saves money as there only making 1 type of chip and then just adjusting it....

I've gone back to my older TBred 2400, dropped it in and it booted straight up at 12x166 with the wire mod, CBA to arse about with the Thorton tbh....
