    Qtec Psu

Bearing in mind what people are saying about QTEC PSU's I have a QTEC 450W Dual Fan Gold. Is this any better or worse that other models?

im not sure of the "true" rating for that one, but the 550s are heavily exaggerated, with 550 being the max they can output before your case gets a rather large hole around where the q-tec used to live... 400 is the highest safe output, though i wouldnt trust one at 200w of load... (slightly less than the average amd system)
there not very quiet either are they?

Used one to attain an XP1800 @ 2420 speeds.....not that noisy either i reckon...

If your on a budget- then go for it, if not then get an Antec trupower or Globalwin

yeah, the 450w is most likely the 'tested to destruction' load, and probably the peak load at that :/ a good psu will go decently beyond its rated wattage then cut out

I have the Q-tec 550W dual fan PSU, to be honest i wish i never bought it, very noisey, no power off switch and my computer has become unstable since installing it.

p.s. i used to have a generic 300W PSU that runs better than this and also check this link here..

A mate of mine runs the 550 on a 3000+ @ 2.5gig, watercooled with a gig and a half of ram, 9800, 4 hard drives and loads of fans, recons he did a mod to it to make it work much better, I still await the day it blows his pc up

Q-tec seriously should go out of business. I wouldn't trust those PSU's on a 486
