    Just upgraded my PC

Hi all i have just finished putting a new motherboard in and a CPU.

I have gone for a Opteron 146 running on the ASrock 939Dual-Sata2.

I can only over clock to 2400Ghz at the moment if i go higher it crashes. I think its because of the memory i have installed its only pc2100 so i need to get some more.

Is this the reason or do you lot think it might be something different.

A crash could be caused by: CPU errors, memory errors, motherboard (chipset usually) errors (those three are often caused by overclocking, but also PSU voltage fluctuations, HD errors, GFX problems, and thats just the hardware. Then you have software to look at.

So saying its crashing doesn't really narrow it down much, but yes, if you are running slower than norm memory, and you are trying to run it at twice its rated speed, its probably that.

If you use a lower (higher? ) memory divider, say down to 100 instead of 200, does it let you clock it any higher?

Welcome to the ASRock / 146 club, there are LOTS of us here.

Are you serious about the PC2100 ?? For relatively little money you can get PC3200, get 2 x 512MB sticks, and I always recommend Corsair Value Select (you only need quicker if you know you need quicker. If you don't, then you don't). Should cost no more than £55 from Scan. Do not add faster memory to the current lot, take the PC2100 out.
These days it's easy to get sucked in to believing what you need and what you dont, but even so i am a little surprised that PC2100 can even work in a setup like ours!
Upgrade and be happy, and ebay the current memory

Well its been running at 2400Mhz for over a day now but if i push it up even by 500 Mhz it will restart. I think its becasue the ram is to slow.

Its not overheating or anything like that

As Barkotron says, what memory divider are you running?

i assume you didn't mean 500mhz when you said it?? get some better ram really even is its not the problem pc2100 will still limit performance
    AMD3000+ ATIX800XL + GBNF44x mobo.. all at stock because they're good enough atm + CA A1 amp-->Mission 73S Loigtech MX1000 + 1GB ram + 1/3 TB HD array
Wintendo XP + Linux (when it works) .. just incase you were wondering

You may need to let the cpu burn-in a bit before further pushing it; my Opty would only do 2.7 on day built sys but after a week of running games etc I could then get it to 3.0ghz.

Make sure your timings are a bit loose when going for high fsb and the chipset as well as the cpu and mem volts may need to be increased.

I have to have a fan over my memory to keep cool.
