PCIe 939 mobo

I've currently got an AGP 939 mobo with a Venice 3500, I'm thinking of upgading to an X1900XT-X but will obviously need a PCIe mobo. I would also be wanting to get a bit more out of my CPU. Which mobos should I be looking at and what am I likely to get out of my CPU, if anything? Is it worth getting an SLi ready mobo as I'm not likely to use this? But there seem to be a lot more features on an SLi ready mobo than on a standard NF4 one.

I haven't got any real budget issues, but less than £400 would be good.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

if you're not interested in SLI, don't discount Via K8T890 - pretty much just as fast, including for clocking - but cheap enoguh that you can buy a few cases of beer with the leftover cash

I myself have went for an AX8.. havent got the time to swap yet.. But judging from how great K8T800 Pro was (AV8 was a stable as a rock up until I hit K8T800's ceiling), K8T890 should be just as good if not better...

if you're opting for an ATI graphics card then you may want to go down the crossfire route, in which case, the boards you should look at are the

If you're not interested in crossfire then an nf4 or K8T890 board would suit you fine

Ive just bought an ASUS A8N -SLI PREMIUM - will let you know what i think of it when i get back from work and set it up.

That's one of the mobo's I was looking at, along with the MSI K8N Diamond SLi.

As for the X1900XTX I was looking at either the PowerColour or Sapphire on Scan, are these good cards? They both look identical to me although the PowerColour is about a tenner more, any differences?

That's exactly why I have created this thread. I'm trying to find out a good combination. Also, I've not 100% decided on the X1900XTX yet, I'm still considering the 7900GTX, although there is a £100 price difference.

untill recently i had an av8 agp board and had my a64 3000+ stable at 2.4ghz but i could not get it any higher without losing stability,

i decided to upgrade to pci-express so got a dfi lanparty ut nf4 ultra-d and now i have manged to get my 3000+ up to 2.68Ghz stable not bad for a cpu thats meant to run at 1.8Ghz

there are so many different options in the bios with dfi boards and you can set the voltages on almost anything you want going up in really small increments!

i cant ever see me buying another make of board and when i decide to go down the sli route this board is fully capable!!

Hmn, funny as both my old AV8 hits 290MHz fine.. But I was limited by my chip then as my 3500+ only did 2.7Ghz and no higher..

Actually when I swapped for an MSI, a chip that ran 2.6Ghz easily on my AV8 now cant even hit 2.4... I eventually threw that combo to my wife..

I've had Abit, Gigabyte and MSI mobo's in the past but I'm willing to try something new. May well give the DFI a go.

I'm in two minds at the moment, I know I should really wait until the summer when I'll hvea more cash to spend and the new AM2 platform is released, but I'm inpatient and am really tempted to get a new mobo and graphics card now. I can always sell them both in the summer and get the new platform anyway.

I start a new job on Monday with a lot more pay, so maybe I'll wait to see how much extra money I get a month and do something then.

I also want to upgrade mysever and make it a media centre server, and I want a new car too, can't afford everything tho...
