The nf7-s seems to have been the little darling of the forum over the last 6+ months... whether this be justified or not. There is a huge amount of data in previous posts. Shouldnt be too hard to dig up

Recomending an NF7s now seems a little wierd for some reason. Maybe that kind of missed the boat, been there done that, dying socket format feeling.

Regardless its still an option if you must be buying core componets [cpu, mobo, ram] at the moment.

• 400+ budgets for upper intel or even AMD64 not assumed to be your target area?
  
• My prefered current option -> Intel format £300 budget for cpu+mobo+ram.
  Intel's still start at £125 + the 865 mobo's are only a touch more than the NF7s. This makes it a more costly alternative to the AMD entry level format options. Yet intel 865 boads remain a strong candidate currently due to the overclockability of the 2.4/2.6 chips and the fact that they say that the newer .9nm process cpu's out next year will still run on the same boards. Can be useful from a trouble shooting point of view, even if you often decide to buy a new mobo every time you buy a new cpu.
  
  A disadvantage is the inevitable crappy onboard sound compaired with the Nvidia boards.
  
  Finally there is about to be a Sis chipset board to offer intel chipset performance at a budget - but its not quite 'over here' yet afaik.
  
• £200-250 budget
  The much discussed 2500+ barton on an dual ddr type board such as the NF7s option.
  
  Downside is that after you factor at least 2X sticks of 400+ ram into the overall price of CPU+mobo+ram, you are paying 80% of the price of the above [unless you want 1 gig of ram] combined intel format anyway. You do get about 85-90% performace so this is still of course more popular for peeps on a budget.
  
  
• <£150 ultra budget
  AMD is the only choice for peeps on an ultra budget. £40 on CPU and not much more on a mobo + a single stick of 2700 DDR. Not a lot of point going intel if you barly have >£100 to spend on the whole lot. Not alot of point in buying an NForece 2 mobo unless you intend to buy a 2nd stick of ram at a later date. Without you giving more data its impossible to say if a NF7s is the right mobo for you to buy... ended up doing an Austin style post

The NF7-S is great for overclocking with a 2500+ barton though, isn't it?
