    DDR v DDR2

Recently i asked a question here asking which mobo to buy and it was recommended i wait until AMD release their AM2 boards because they support DDR2.

Well, i was just looking on crucials website yesterday to see what kinda prices they were and this may be a silly question, but what is the point in waiting for AM2 with DDR2? Crucial says DDR PC3200 and DDR2 PC2-3200 both have a module bandwidth of 3.2gb/s, so in that case why is DDR2 any better? Are there more factors in deciding how good RAM is (i havent a clue about RAM in case you havent guessed). I guess latency is something to do with it but i dont know the different latencys of the 2. Also, crucial list this under the specs:

    DDR PC3200 • CL=3 • UNBUFFERED • NON-ECC • DDR400 • 2.6V • 128Meg x 64

    DDR2 PC2-3200 • CL=3 • UNBUFFERED • NON-ECC • DDR2-400 • 1.8V • 128Meg x 64

Which are also identical except for the V. So if anyone could explain why its worth waiting, id be grateful,

    Chris.

    AM2 wont use PC2-3200

it will use PC2-8000 or PC2-6400 I think, which is alot faster

The athlon 64s seem to be pretty tolerant of what RAM you are running, hence people here keep saying to use value ram (I use Geil value ram myself).

OTOH, any new toys from AMD in the future will come out on the new socket. What you see now is pretty much all you are going to get for S939.
