Recommendations for secure USB2 memory stick...

I'm looking for a USB2 memory stick which supports an encrypted partition for sensitive data; ideally, since the drive will be moved between quite a few different machines, the encryption software will run from the USB stick itself WITHOUT having to be installed on a PC accessing the secured data. Anyone have any recommendations for this, please? Capacity would ideally be 1GB or greater.

I have a StegoStik - strong encryption, small, reliable, driver-less, (only work on W2K and XP though I believe).

I have been using it for about 18 months now and my firm has standardised on it as the ONLY USB memory stick allowed to be used on company machines or for company data.

I looked at some that we want for coprorate use ( we ant to include DRM on them so that they wont run on anything other than "our" machines too ! )

the kingston key i've got comes with some encryption tool on the key itself - works well

Kingston's an option - and I've also been looking at the Lexar JumpDrive Secure II, which seems to have the requisite functionality. Matter of fact I mailed them an enquiry about it yesterday afternoon and got a reply this morning, which is a pretty swift turnaround.

I've got the boss to order a couple of stegosticks for a trial


-we'd quite like to be able to have a master key to unlock all of the sticks ( just in case of any misuse )
- no DRM

otherwise they look like they'll do the job

We find we get great service from StegoStick (as a corporate customer), their service has always been first class. You cannot have a 'Master Over-ride' password to access others secured data (would be a security vulnerability) with them though, you can only wipe it and start over.

Before we selected StegoStik we tried the Trek ThumbDrive Touch - uses fingerprint recognition to access - very cool, you can set up a Master user and up to 4 or 5 additional users, plus has an over-ride password - check it out at http://www.thumbdrive.com/touch.htm - however whilst it works just fine, we discovered that all users had to have Admin rights on any box they use it on - so it became a non-starter for us, just imaging giving all you company users Admin rights, or going to a client with it as asking them to grant you Admin rights.... er I don't think so.

But it might work for you.

I use Steganos Safe 8 quite a bit - would do exactly what you're asking. You don't need it to be installed on the machine you're plugging the stick into either which was ideal for me as its used primarily to encrypt DVD's.
It wasn't a bad price either as a download from the states.
